As a child I can remember warm summer nights, playing until dark and footlong hot dogs at the local mall, but none of them compare to weekend nights when my parents would turn the lights off, light the candles and turn on the record player. I remember sneaking in and laying down by the stereo speakers and falling asleep to the great sounds of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Melanie Safka and many other greats. It probably would come to no surprise that as a teen, while my friends preferred the sounds of Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins, and Screaming Trees I was still falling asleep with headphones on and "Buckets of Rain" playing me to sleep.
There is still nothing quite like it. That is until I heard "Munford and Sons. This gritty Folk, Bluegrass, British Pop, Irish, Christian, band seems to hit every aspect of my musical desires. Their bass thumping, banjo playing, foot stomping music is one of the best newer folk bands I've heard recently.
Mumford & Sons are Marcus Mumford, Country Winston, Ted Dwayne, and Ben Lovett. The folk/bluegrass band formed in September of 2007. Their music is unique, bursting with personality and based spiritual morality that I think everyone can relate to . Each song seems to have it's own emotion. For example, the song "White Blank Page" starts out slow then the chugging of the acoustic and thumping of the bass drum kicks in and you feel that aggression and emotion in the song. One must listen to their music to truly understand the power behind their songs.
